The Administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice-admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has called on the Christian community to play a central role in restoring peace and unity amid ongoing political and security challenges in the state.
During a meeting with the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rivers State Chapter, held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the Administrator stressed the importance of the Church’s moral influence in rebuilding trust and fostering reconciliation.
Extending Easter greetings, Admiral Ibas said the season serves as a reminder of sacrifice, hope, and unity, all of which are essential for the state’s recovery.
Admiral Ibas, who assumed office on March 20, 2025, following the declaration of a state of emergency by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, outlined his primary responsibilities: restoring law and order, stabilizing the polity, and creating conditions for the return of democratic governance.
He noted that since his appointment, he has embarked on wide-ranging consultations with civil society organizations, traditional rulers, and local government officials to restore confidence and promote cooperation.
Emphasizing the Church’s influence, Admiral Ibas urged CAN to preach peace across congregations and communities, promote unity beyond ethnic, political, and denominational lines, encourage forgiveness and national reconciliation, and serve as a beacon of hope amid fear and uncertainty.
