Delta State has concluded arrangements to participate in 34 different sports at the just opened National Youth Games taking place in Ilorin, Kwara State with over 400 athletes representing the state.
Executive Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa disclosed this in Asaba while speaking with journalists his office on the state’s contingent’s preparation.
Chief Tonobok, who noted that the completion of Stephen Keshi stadium has stepped up sporting activities in the state capital, promised that Delta state would come top at the National Youth Games.
“Anything less than first position is not winning and we are prepared to win”, he added.
He expressed fear over age cheating and called for proper screening in order to ensure that over age athletes are not allowed to participate.
Chief Tonobok charged journalists who would cover the Youth Games to ensure adequate coverage of the events.
The National Games began on Monday, 9 September in Ilorin, Kwara state. Delta state has won all the previous editions of the games which commenced in 2012.
