Edo State governor, Godwin Obasekihas charged National Youth service Corps members must be able to createpositive impacts in all sectors of the economy to enable thestate and Nigeriawitness great development. He gave the charge at the official closing ceremonyof the2019 BatchA’ orientation camp inOkada, Benin City.
Obaseki urged the Corps members to play complimentary role in nation building.
“The role of youths in the task ofnationbuilding cannot be over- emphasized. NYSC has launchedyou into the mainstreamof socio- economic development; it is vital to note that your complimentaryrole in nation-building is highly needed at this time when Nigeria is facedwithboth political and economic challenges.
Your positiveimpact must be felt inall different sectors of the economy, especially within the host communities,in moving them fromtheir present situation to the next level,” thegovernor stated.
He asked them to apply knowledgeacquired from their universities in helping transform the state.
“l enjoin you to impact knowledgeacquiredfrom your various institutions of higher learningon the younger ones, and joinhands with us in making the ‘heartbeatof the nation’,worthy of emulation. l urgeyou to go into the midst of ourpeople, interact with themfreely and respect their traditions and cultures,wherever you may find yourself”
Governor Obaseki implored them toavoid unnecessary travels.
“As you move into the variouscommunities of Edo state, you will find the rightenvironment to live and work,get yourselves occupied to avoid unnecessary journeys,” Obaseki’ said.
In his welcome address, the Edo State NYSC coordinator, ClementAdebayo, said corps members were fully engaged for the three-week period with various activities planned to achieve intended goals, noting that the NYSC members have exhibited high level ofdiscipline,resilience, loyalty and commitment, which contributed to thepositive results achieved in the progrmme and policy implementation.”
“As managers of the scheme, we aresatisfied and confident that, these batchof corps members havebeen fullyequipped to render very vital and rewardingservice at their respective placesof primary assignment. Always remember that you have beentrained inleadership.You will do well to bring to bear thematurity and dexterity withwhich you tackle life challenges.
“Wherever you find yourselves,settledown fast and think of how best to positively influence andimprove thelives of members of your host> communities,” Adebayo advised.
