Obele Blames RCC For Recent Tragic Accident On East West Road

The Chairman of Property Owners on the Eleme axis of the East – West Road, Dr. Joseph Obele, has blamed Reynolds Construction Company Limited, the contractors working on the road for the recent accident that claimed the life of a Dutch expatriate, Mr. Reuben Giesen.
Obele said the accident highlighted RCC’s unprofessional approach and lack of safety measures. He said the unprotected nature of the Aleto Bridge created the room for the car of the deceased to fall into the river.
He said had RCC demonstrated professionalism, they would have provided railings or wages on the bridge.
He said road users had consistently complained about the condition of the Aleto bridge, which has been left unprotected for a long time. “Despite these warnings, RCC failed to take necessary measures to address the risks, resulting in this tragic accident.
“Property owners are thankful to Chief Hon. Brian Gokpa, Executive Chairman of Eleme LGA, for responding promptly to the incident, emphasizing the need for immediate safety measures.
“The property owners join the public in calling for the Honourable Minister of Works to revoke RCC’s contract and reaward it to a reputable construction company that prioritizes speed and safety.”
