December 16, 2020, the Azagba-Ogwashi International Market ground breaking ceremony was performed at a historic ceremony witnessed by many dignitaries and delighted sons and daughters of the large community. The Azagba-Ogwashi International Market, a pet project of the Aniocha South Local Government Council in collaboration with the Delta State Government, is designed to accommodate modern market amenities and facilities.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku kingdom; HRM Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo II lauded the local government chairman, Hon Isaac Anwuzia for embarking on such a huge project that is poised to bring the much desired development to Ogwashi-Uku. He declared the readiness of the community to accommodate individuals or corporate organizations who are ready to partner with the community to bring investments and developmental initiatives to Ogwashi-Uku.
In his speech chairman of Aniocha South Local Government, Chief Isaac Anwuzia, the Nagbasei of Ogwashi-Uku, thanked the Obi for his fatherly support and encouragement to see that the Azagba-Ogwashi International Market becomes a reality. He also thanked the Obi for providing the needed land for the market which is located in a very strategic location, along the Onitsha/Benin expressway, as he emphasized the importance of the market to Aniocha South LGA and Ogwashi-Uku in particular.
The Azagba-Ogwashi International Market is an ultra- modern market located at Azagba-Ogwashi-Uku designed to host facilities including, trailer park, bank, mall, shopping stalls, treated water system, fire service post, modern sewage management system, a mini clinic, pharmacy, 24hrs power supply and adequate standby security. The market will also house lockup shops, restaurants and retail food stuff shops.
Located just a few minutes to Asaba International Airport, with the ease to access major cities like Onistha, Agbor and Benin, when completed, shoppers and traders from three states – Delta, Edo and Anambra can easily shop at the market without the burden of traffic congestion.
The concessionaire, Grace Land Channels Limited said they are determined to develop the market to standard, which will also provide numerous job opportunities for Ogwashi-Uku youths.
Anwuzia also thanked the people of Azagba-Ogwashi-Uku for their support towards the market.
Reacting to the development, the youth president of Azagba-Ogwashi-Uku Comr. Elvis Green, thanked the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku and all parties involved in bringing such a huge developmental project to Azagba-Ogwashi-Uku.
He assured the contractor that the youths of Azagba will work with them to ensure a hitch-free construction duration.
