Miss Miracle Onyekachi-Daniel has won this year’s Bookville Reading Competition held at Alliance Francais, Port Harcourt.
Miracle beat 19 other contestants to win the competition and take home a laptop, a backpack and 80 hours of French lessons at Alliance Francais.
The second place prize which came with a backpack, and N50,000 cash and was won by Amarachukwu Udoeyop. The third prize was won by Mabose Obibi, who went home with a backpack and N25,000 cash.
There were also prizes for the most improved contestant and the most enterprising contestant. It was the seventh edition of the competition, which started in 2017.
The Managing Director of Bookville, Mrs. Nkem Asoka, said the competition is to promote reading culture among younger children.
“It’s not an inter-school competition. But we reach the children through their schools. When you read, you expand your mind and challenge the statis quo,” she said.
Mrs. Asoka said this year, the children were given four books to read, three in the preliminary stage and four in the final. “We ask them if they agree with the authors or not and they are to give their reasons,” she said.
Bookville, she said was into bookstore and intellectual printing. They also hold book fairs and promote writing.
