More than 110 water schemes made up of new ones and rehabilitated schemes are currently functioning in various parts of the Delta State.
Delta State commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Samuel Mariere made this known in Asaba while speaking with journalists on the activities of his ministry.
The commissioner, revealed at the occasion that the Asaba Capital Territory water schemes made up of Asaba water scheme, Okpanam water scheme and Ibuzor water scheme on completion. He added that the scheme would be managed by the contractors for one year before they are paid. This, according to the commissioner, would enable engineers from the World Bank confirm there is water in homes before payment.
Hon. Mariere, who revealed that the World Bank fund is not a grant but a loan secured by the federal government on behalf of the states, noted that several communities such as Ewvreni, Osubi Oleh, Eruwa, Akugbene, Otowhodo, Iyede-Ame among others, are beneficiaries.
On the Warri water scheme, the commissioner noted that on assumption of office he discovered that the project was vandalized but promised to fix it, adding that now, the project has been fixed and water will be available soon as what is left is piping the water to homes.
He assured Deltans of the readiness of the ministry to ensure potable water flows in every nook and cranny of the state.
According to him, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was very much committed to the various water projects in the state as he continues to insist that people must have water.
The commissioner however, stated that people must pay water rate to keep the system working perfectly.
