The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas, has reiterated his commitment to restoring vandalized infrastructure across the state, assuring residents that his administration would prioritize these repairs within its available resources.
Ibas made the commitment when he inspected ongoing road projects, assessed the damage to local government council secretariats, and the newly inaugurated Bori Zonal Hospital.
The tour encompassed road projects in Khana Local Government Area, including the Nyhokhana-Kenkhana road connecting Luuwa to Baani communities and the Zakphor-Bateem road. In Eleme, the Administrator inspected the internal roads and drainage projects alongside the Eleme section of the Port Harcourt Ring Road project.
Ibas expressed deep disappointment at the extent of the vandalism witnessed at the Khana and Eleme Local Government Council Secretariats. He stressed that such acts hinder the state’s progress, urging residents to prioritize protecting public infrastructure.
“We owe it to the people to ensure these facilities and infrastructure are in the best possible condition,” Ibas stated. “We are committed to fixing these vandalized structures, despite our limited resources. We must enable those who rely on these facilities to return to work and resume their daily activities.”
The Administrator further emphasized the need for a unified effort to rebuild trust and unity among Rivers residents, working towards a state where people can thrive and prosper.
“Our aim is to make Rivers State a place where everyone feels proud to belong,” he added. “We are determined to make this a great state that people will want to call home.”
Ibas also reaffirmed his commitment to the completion of the State House of Assembly building, assuring that it will be ready to serve the legislative arm of government in due time.
Highlighting the importance of roads for economic development, Ibas said, “Roads are vital for commerce and development in any society. They facilitate easy movement of goods and services, enabling economic growth. We are working to create wealth and prosperity for all Rivers residents.”
The Administrator acknowledged that the task ahead is significant, urging leaders at all levels to collaborate and ensure the delivery of good governance to the people.
“We must be accountable to the people who entrusted us with their resources. We need to ensure their money is used wisely and effectively. By delivering good governance and addressing their needs, we can minimize the chances of them resorting to unlawful actions,” he said.
Ibas concluded by emphasizing the importance of community involvement in protecting and preserving public infrastructure.
“We expect those who use these roads to take care of them. By working together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous future for Rivers State,” he said.
