The Rivers State Police Command has paraded 30 suspected criminals involved in various crimes, ranging from murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape and child trafficking, among others.
Briefing journalists during the parade, the Rivers State commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka said the suspects were rounded up at different locations by his officers following credible intelligence.
The CP specifically spoke of a man, identified as David Kalu Onyems who, he said was kidnapped along Abia/Rivers State boundary by youths within the 18 year bracket and was murdered and buried in a shallow grave after his family paid the sum of N2m ransom.
The CP said his decomposing body was later exhumed by security operatives, following the arrest of the perpetrators.
Another case was a five-year old child abducted by the complainant’s elder sister to buyers in Imo State at the sum of N600,000. The police had rescued the child and perpetrators arrested.
CP Eboka also told of a trailer load of fertilizer worth over N22m that was hijacked by armed robbers at the Oil Mill Flyover and diverted to Igbo-Etche forest.
The culprits were also arrested by police operatives from Elimgbu Division and the trailer’s consignment, alongside the truck recovered.
A total 30 suspects were arrested and six arms, eight ammunition and one magazine were recovered.
Others are one DAF truck with registration number PKM 491 XA, Toyota Corolla said to have been snatched at Elekahia in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State and taken to Nasarawa State to be sold.
Other recoveries the CP said, include 150,000 bags of fertilizer, as well as cash of N1.3m.
The CP warned undesirable elements in Rivers State to either repent or relocate to other safer grounds, as the fight to rid the state of crime will be sustained.
