The management, staff as well as pupils of State School 1, Rumuji town in Emohua Local Government Area have held their 18th Annual Inter-House Sports Competition.
The chairman of the occasion, Mr. Edmund Ohaka charged the teachers and pupils to always play according to the rules of the games in order to replicate the record set by the past and former pupils of the school.
Mr. Ohaka who was represented by the chairman of Rumuji Education Committee, Dr. Clement Ojims, stated that the 18th annual inter-house sports of the school was of high standard, and full of excitement.
He commended the pupils, particularly those who participated in the 18th Inter-House Sports Competition for their good performance as he urged the pupils to be serious with their studies.
On her part, the supervising director of Education in Emohua LGA, Mrs.Etete stated that the aim of sports promotion and development is to discover budding talents who would represent the state and country in future in national and international sports competitions.
She commended the teachers for making sure that sports grow faster and higher at the school and thanked the parents for supporting their wards.
Earlier, the head teacher of the school Mrs. Ngozi Onyeowere had explained that sports at the primary school level is aimed at early development of well-rounded individuals
She said that the school is facing a lot of challenges.
“There is the challenge of lack of seats at State School 1. The school also lacks trophies, as a matter of fact, the trophies that will be given to the best performed houses today were hired form sister schools.
“I am appealing to individuals that have the interest of the school at heart to come to our aid. Once more, we want to passionately appeal to the executive chairman of Emohua LGA, Dr. Chidi Julius Lloyd to come to our aid by changing the ceilings of some classrooms which are falling off on a daily basis,” Mrs.Onyeowere added.
The head teacher explained that under her leadership, the school has recorded some achievements.
“The school within one year has recorded some achievements. In this academic session, one of our pupil came third in a quiz competition and award was given to him and the school. The school has also ensured that the bore- hole and toilet facilities have remained functional and are used daily by the pupils.”
She stated that the management and staff of the school would continue to thank parents of the pupils and stakeholders of the school.
“Finally, I thank the Anglican Pastor and his wife at Rumuji for your good heart, especially when our generator had fault and you still gave our children clean drinking water,” Mrs. Onyeowere asserted.
Also speaking, the chairman Parents, Teachers Association (P.T.A) of the school who is the as vice-chairman of Rumuji CDC, Mr. Chinedu Megbo said that sports at this level would not only make the children happy but also serves as a unifying factor among the people. Mr. Megbo expressed satisfaction with the active participation of the pupils at the 18th Inter-House Competition of the school.
“The 18th Inter-House sports of this school is of international standards. Indeed, I must also commend the pupils for their active participation,” Mr. Megbo said.
He also lauded the parents of the pupils for paying for the sportswear of their children, adding that the parents and the school management did very well.
