Bayelsa State Government has condemned the recent act of sabotage on the Ogboinbiri/Obiobi 24-inch Gas Pipeline, located between Angiama and Angiamagbene in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. The pipeline was damaged in what authorities are calling a “criminal act of economic sabotage”.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, Hon. Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, declared that the government will not tolerate such destructive behavior. She emphasized that security agencies are working tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent future incidents.
“The protection of national assets is a collective responsibility,” she urged citizens, imploring them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity around public infrastructure to law enforcement.
The damage to the gas pipeline not only represents a significant financial loss for federal, state, and local governments but also poses severe environmental risks. Exposure to natural gas and petrochemicals can have serious health consequences for residents.
The government issued a plea to Bayelsa’s youth to refrain from engaging in destructive acts and instead cooperate with the administration in maintaining peace and safeguarding public infrastructure. “Together, we can achieve the prosperity agenda of the government and develop infrastructure to attract investment,” Koku-Obiyai stated.
She concluded by calling on everyone to work together to ensure ## Vandals Target Bayelsa Gas Pipeline, Sparking Government Outrage
