The Chairman of the Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, has made clarifications about protest that shut down an oil producing facility in Ogidigben in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to Tompolo’s media aide, Dr Paul Bebenimibo, the oil platform is not covered by Tantita, the security company owned by Ekpempolo, that keeps surveillance over oil pipelines and facilities in the Niger Delta.
The affected oil facility was shut down by Itsekiri youths protesting alleged gerrymandering by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Warri South-West Local Government Area.
Bebenimibo said Ogidigben oil field is under the coverage of Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL), a firm linked to the Olu of Itsekiri.
The oil facility, which produces 28,000 barrels a day in Ugborodo, Warri South-West Local Government Area, was shut down on Wednesday by aggrieved Itsekiri protesters over alleged marginalisation in ward delineation by INEC.
But Tompolo has distanced himself and Tantita from the protest and issues connected to it, emphasising that the oil facility falls outside Tantita’s operational zone.
Bebenimibo said, “The issue has nothing to do with Tantita and Tompolo. It is not only Tantita that is doing the security job. The Olu of Itsekiri’s company, PINL, is also covering that area.
“The Ogidigben oil field is not under our watch but under PINL, a firm linked to the Olu of Itsekiri.”
The facility is now owned by Renaissance Africa Energy Holdings after its recent acquisition of Shell concerns.
