Edo 2024: God Has Anointed Me To Be Governor – Shaibu

Edo State Deputy Governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu, has said that his insistence on running for the governorship of the state in next year’s election is because he had received an assurance from God that he would be governor.
Shaibu, who spoke in Benin when he hosted members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at an end-of-year party, said God had authorized him to speak on this matter and that whatever God had asked him to say never came to nothing.
Shaibu had been at loggerheads with the incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki, over his aspiration. Obaseki, whose tenure runs out in November 2024 is not eligible to contest again after getting a second tenure. But he had refused to endorse Shaibu to succeed him after the deputy governor stood firmly with him in his previous elections.
Shaibu promised that the next time he would host journalists would be when he is governor.
“The words of our mouth obviously are the words of God. I have never spoken the words and it comes back void because God has given the authority to speak the word and when I speak it comes to pass. I am not just saying it for saying sake or for the sake of political reasons.
“I say it because that’s the word. That’s what God has said it should and God has always been faithful,” he said.
He promised to have a better working relationship with the media when he becomes governor. He also promised to initiate a housing scheme for journalists which will cater for them most especially when they retire from active service.
