Rivers State Government will begin promotion interviews for civil servants in the state from Monday next week.
A circular issued on June 4th, 2026 by the Permanent Secretary of f the Civil Service Commission, James Enebeli, said the interviews will involve all categories of government workers including those in extra ministerial agencies and the House of Assembly.
Those in Rivers State will be interviewed at the conference hall of the civil service commission in Port Harcourt while those in Lagos and Abuja will be interviewed at the Rivers State Liaison offices in Lagos and Abuja.
It’s the first time in nearly 20 years that a massive promotion interview for civil servants is taking place. The immediate past administration of Nyesom Wike did not promote workers or implement the promotions approved by his predecessor’s government.
The promotion exercise has been hailed by civil servants and civil society organisations. The government of Siminalayi Fubara had implemented previously approved promotion of civil servants and paid all the arrears accruing to non implementation of the promotions.
The governor also increased the minimum wage of civil servants in the state to N85,000 a month and sustained an across the board N100,000 Christmas bonus for the workers since 2023.
