Rivers State Governor, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara, has cancelled the revocation of the certificate of occupancy of Ogeyi Place, the hospitality outfit belonging to former Military Governor of old Rivers State, Brig-General Anthony Ukpo.
The certificate of occupancy of the property, which previously housed Hotel L’Meridien in Port Harcurt was revoked by the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, after political opponents of the governor were found to have taken shelter in the hotel.
In a government gazette dated 6th June, 2024 and signed by Fubara, the state government said the revocation of the C of O was made in error.
The gazette read, “Whereas by a an official Gazette of Rivers State No. 37 Volume 58 and dated 29th December 2022, the then Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, revoked the aforementioned statutory Right of Occupancy covering the above subject property from Anthony Ukpo and Ogeyi Place Hotels Limited for the use by Government
“And Whereas in exercise of Powers conferred on me by Section 28 (5) (a) (b) of the Land Use Act, Cap L5, Laws of the Federaion of Nigeria 2004, al other powers enabling me on behalf, I, Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State of Nigeria hereby withdraws and cancels the revocation of the said property.”
Ukpo was the military governor of Rivers State from 1986 to 1987. Among others, his government established the Rivers State polytechnic, Bori.
