Despite not having an office yet to operate from, the newly inaugurated Caretaker Committee of Eleme Local Government in Rivers has begun to clear the mountains of rubbish around the local government area left behind by the immediate past government.
Among the decomposing refuse dumps cleared so far were the ones at Echieta Nchia Main Market, the one at the NNPC filling Station near GVC on the East-West Road, the dump at Refinery Junction and Onne.
He had promised during his thanksgiving service that he would move into action to clear the local government area of rubbish and keep everywhere clean.
Chief Gokpa and members of the caretaker committee were inaugurated on June 19 by Governor Siminalayi Fubara following the expiration of the tenure of the former local government chairmen and councilors.
Since their inauguration, they have not had access to the council secretariats because the place has been sealed by the police. The former council chairman and secretaries had vowed not to vacate office after the expiration of their tenures.

During the inauguration of the CTC members, Chief Gokpa, charged them to be dedicated and bring their wealth of experience to bear on their duties. “The people of Eleme are relying on us to deliver good governance, and we must not disappoint them,” he said.
In another development, the Eleme CTC Chairman has promised maintenance of peace and security in the area and restoration of electricity and youth development/ empowerment. He stated this during the thanksgiving service at Apostolic Power Ministry, Port Harcourt last Sunday.
The Chairman has meanwhile embarked on several consultation visits in the area.
