Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has suspended from office the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Samson Osagie, and Chairman of Local Government Commission, Hon. Damian Lawani for alleged official misconduct and financial infractions.
The announcement was made in a press release signed on Wednesday and made available to journalists in Benin City, the state capital by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhiloon.
The governor consequently directed the setting up of an investigative committee to investigate allegations and make appropriate recommendations accordingly.
The press release noted that the suspensions became necessary to enable government carry out a thorough investigation into the allegations leveled against them. They are to remain suspended pending the conclusion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, Osagie has denied the allegations of official misconduct and financial infractions levelled against him.
The former minority whip of the House of Representatives disclosed that he was not confronted before the announcement of his suspension, adding that he was ready to defend his reputation, prove his innocence and clear his name and hard reputation built over the years.
