Wisdom Oniekpar Ikuli a citizen of Ogbia Local Government of Bayelsa State has appealed to Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State to direct the police to investigate the violent attack on Golden Jeremiah, the Executive Chairman of Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Wisdom Ikuli, who condemned the act, also demanded that disciplinary action be taken against the culprit to serve as deterrent to others.
In a press message on Sunday, Ikuli said, “There should be no justification for this irresponsible act and action. I mean, it is too shameful.
“LGA Chairman is like a Governor at the grassroots because he is the leader, image, mouthpiece and the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the local government area.
“The Local Government Chairman is the No. 1 Citizen in the LGA, thus should be respected not necessarily because of his age but his revered office.”
A source close to the chairman of Ogbia Local Government told speaking this correspondent on phone, “You know when something like this happens, I don’t just speak. I need to hear directly from my Boss.

“It was during an indoor meeting and every body was not allowed inside. Since the meeting was a private stakeholders meeting where the media was not there, I needed to get directive from my Boss.
“For now, we want to de-activate media presence until my Boss tells me to do so but I can confirm to you that the matter was officially reported to the DPO in charge of that area and to the Commissioner of Police so as they progress, I will be giving you update.
“That was what he just updated me. It was a stakeholders meeting across Ogbia with the commissioners and house of Assembly members present. I think along the line, there was disagreement so the Assembly Member representing Ogbia Constituency 1, Richard Ibegu, for whatever must have transpired, I think he reacted in a violent manner and I think the Chairman being a matured person and being the host because he called for the meeting didn’t react based on the violence the man exhibited.
“Others within the circle especially his colleagues like Gabriel had to jump in and intervene to ensure that the whole thing come down. At the end of day, chairman has to go and make entry but I don’t know the details of the entry but he made entry based on what happened at the meeting.”
Musa Mohammad, the Police Public Relations Officer of Bayelsa State, did not respond to calls made to him. It was a similar story when this correspondent put calls through to get the chairman to respond to the story.
Also Richard Ibegu could not be reached to clear the air as at the time of filing this report.
