Rivers State Police Command has announced the rescue of a 24-year-old pregnant woman, Regina Sunday, who was abducted in Port Harcourt and taken to Aba, Abia State, by suspected child traffickers.
According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Grace Iringe-Koko, the rescue operation followed credible intelligence gathered by police operatives, which led them to track the victim’s location outside the state.
On June 24, 2025, our operatives extended investigations to Aba, Abia State, where two notorious suspects linked to a child trafficking syndicate were apprehended.
The arrested suspects have been identified as 28-year-old Sunshine Hart and 38-year-old Kingsley Ekocha. Both are believed to be key players in a broader child trafficking ring operating across state lines.
In a dramatic turn of events, Regina Sunday reportedly went into labour on June 30, just days after her rescue. She was promptly taken to the Police Clinic in Port Harcourt, where she gave birth to a baby boy. Both mother and child are said to be in stable condition.
Iringe-Koko said investigations were ongoing to uncover the full extent of the trafficking network and apprehend all individuals connected to the crime.
She urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities related to child trafficking or abduction to the nearest police station.
