Rivers State University (RSU) has announced the promotion of Dr. Mina Ogbanga to the rank of Professor of Social Work and Environmental Sustainability, making her the first person to attain a professorship in the combined field within the institution.
The university’s decision marks a major milestone in Prof. Ogbanga’s academic career, recognizing her extensive contributions to social work practice, policy research, and environmental advocacy.
Prof. Ogbanga’s scholarly works span the social and cultural dimensions of social welfare policies, reproductive health, rehabilitation, and recovery. She is also known for her strong involvement in climate change initiatives and other sustainability-focused programmes.
Reacting to the news of her elevation, her husband, Mr. Nemiteinbofori Ogbanga, expressed gratitude to God and described the achievement as “marvellous in our eyes.”
“It is a thing of joy that the name of God Almighty will always be glorified,” he said. “Join me in welcoming this quintessential woman of virtue as she has been pronounced Professor of Social Work and Environmental Sustainability in the world-class Rivers State University — the first of such in the world.”
He added that her promotion marks “the beginning of a very outlined journey” and prayed for God’s continued grace upon her life.
Prof. Ogbanga’s elevation has continued to attract goodwill messages from colleagues, students, and stakeholders in the academic and development communities.
