The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, identified as Goodnews Iberi, in connection with the kidnapping and killing of a 25-year-old woman along the Emuoha axis of the East–West Road.
The victim, identified as Rita Eleonu, was reportedly lured by the suspect and members of his gang, who are currently at large, and taken into a forest, according to the police.

Spokesperson of the Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement, saying the kidnappers later contacted the victim’s family and demanded a ransom. She said the family paid the sum of N210,000 in a bid to secure her release.
However, unknown to the family, the suspects allegedly killed the woman for suspected ritual purposes after collecting the ransom. Her body was subsequently buried in a shallow grave before the gang fled the area.
Iringe-Koko said the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation and led police operatives to the forest where the victim’s remains were exhumed.
She added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang, while the suspect would be charged to court after investigations were concluded.
