Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council, bringing to an end the tenure of all Commissioners and Special Advisers in his administration.
The dissolution was conveyed in a Government Special Announcement issued on Thursday and signed by the new Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Onwuka Nzeshi.
According to the statement, the Governor directed all affected officials to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries with immediate effect.
“His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council,” the statement read. “His Excellency, the Governor, has therefore directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most Senior officers in their Ministries with immediate effect.”
Governor Fubara also expressed appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council for their service to the state, wishing them well in their future endeavours.
While no reason was officially given for the dissolution, sources within Government House indicated that the governor may soon transmit a fresh list of commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The development is expected to trigger a new phase in the administration, as political observers watch closely for the composition of the next cabinet and the direction it may signal for governance in the state.
