The final rites for Bayelsa State’s first female lawmaker, Hon. Vivien Eniekenumu Ere, commenced with a Service of Songs marked by tributes and glowing eulogies at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa, on Friday, April 17, 2026.
Late Ere represented Southern Ijaw Constituency I in the inaugural 1999 Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

Delivering a sermon titled “Life Is a Journey,” the Presbyter of Royal House of Grace, Bishop Peter Leghemo, reminded the congregation of the transient nature of life, stressing that all mortals would one day give account. Drawing from Luke 16:19, he urged the living to live righteously, emphasizing that eternity in either heaven or hell is determined by one’s actions on earth.
He described the late legislator as a woman of faith, courage, and service, noting her contributions to the growth of the church and society.
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, expressed condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Amassoma, and the state at large. He described Ere as a “rare gem” and commended efforts made to save her life.

Wife of the Governor, Dr. Gloria Diri, also paid tribute, noting that the late lawmaker’s 63 years were marked by impactful living and exemplary leadership. She described her as compassionate and devoted to service.
Senator representing Bayelsa Central, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson, said the deceased was approachable, loving, and a problem-solver, urging others to emulate her legacy.
Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Ambassador Godknows Igali, said Ere lived a life of purpose and rendered selfless service to the Izon nation and Nigeria, adding that she showed resilience in the face of health challenges.
On behalf of Amassoma community, Chief Douyi Douglas-Naingba described her as humble, intelligent, and dependable.
Other tributes from religious leaders, lawmakers, and associates—including Pastor Agnes Oloye, Hon. Rodney Ambaiowei, Chief Ayibanengifa Egba, Hon. Faith Opuene, Chief Robert Enogha, and Hon. Ebitimi Amgbare—highlighted her commitment to humanity, advocacy for women’s empowerment, and strong interpersonal relationships.
Family members also participated in the service, with her first son and younger brother reading Bible passages, while her daughter, Precious Ere, presented her biography, portraying her as a woman who related warmly across all social strata.
