The Decade of Gas Secretariat, in collaboration with the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PI-CNG/EV), has organized a media capacity-building session for journalists in Port Harcourt aimed at deepening public understanding of Nigeria’s gas development agenda.
The awareness session brought together media practitioners from television, radio, print, and digital platforms to provide insights into the country’s gas sector and its strategic role in driving economic growth, energy security, job creation, and improved living standards.
Speaking during the programme, officials of the Decade of Gas Secretariat provided participants with an overview of the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas Initiative, highlighting opportunities across the gas value chain and outlining progress recorded since the programme was launched. They emphasized that natural gas remains a critical component of Nigeria’s energy transition strategy and economic diversification efforts.
Representatives of PI-CNG/EV also briefed participants on ongoing government efforts to expand access to cleaner and more affordable transportation through the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and the introduction of electric mobility solutions. They noted that the initiatives present significant opportunities for investment, cost reduction in transportation, and employment generation.
An interactive session enabled journalists to engage directly with industry experts on issues relating to natural gas and CNG adoption. The discussions addressed common misconceptions about the sector while providing factual information to support accurate and balanced reporting.
Participants commended the organizers for the initiative, describing it as a valuable platform for strengthening media capacity and improving the quality of reporting on gas-related issues. The Decade of Gas Secretariat reiterated its commitment to sustained engagement with the media as part of efforts to promote informed public discourse and advance Nigeria’s vision of building a gas-powered economy.
