The Khana, Gokana, Tai and Eleme (KAGOTE) organization has condemned the killing of Ogoni youth leader, Hon. Letam Kinee, popularly known as Langa, and announced a ₦2 million reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
Kinee was reportedly shot dead by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Bori, the traditional headquarters of Ogoniland, sparking outrage across the area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, KAGOTE President, Chief Lesi Maol, described the killing as a “barbaric, cruel and senseless act” that has no place in a peaceful and progressive society.
He said the organization would not tolerate violence, criminality or bloodshed in any part of Ogoniland and insisted that those behind the attack must be identified, arrested and prosecuted.
Chief Maol called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to intensify investigations to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
To encourage public cooperation with investigators, he announced a ₦2 million bounty for anyone who provides credible information leading to the identification and arrest of the attackers.
He urged individuals with useful information to report to the nearest police station or any recognized security agency, assuring them that their identities would be kept confidential.
The KAGOTE President also appealed to residents of Ogoniland to remain calm, law-abiding and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
According to him, any act of retaliation or vengeance would only aggravate the situation and undermine the peace and unity the people have worked hard to build.
Chief Maol expressed confidence in the ability of security agencies to unravel those behind the killing and called on residents to cooperate fully with investigators.
He extended condolences to the family of the deceased, his friends and associates, as well as the entire Ogoni community, praying that they receive the strength to bear the loss.
Reaffirming KAGOTE’s commitment to the protection of lives and the promotion of peace and justice, Chief Maol declared that Ogoniland must never become a haven for violence and criminality.
