Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed reports of a disagreement between his administration and the State House of Assembly over the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, said on Wednesday that he was not at loggerheads with members of the Assembly, insisting that both arms of government were working together in the interest of the people of the state.
The clarification followed reports published by some national newspapers and online platforms alleging a disagreement between the Executive and Legislative arms over the 2026 budget proposal.
According to the statement, the reports were misleading, as the budget was already before the lawmakers and undergoing the normal legislative process.
“The 2026 Budget proposal has been presented to the House of Assembly; it is going through the normal legislative process and we strongly believe that once the process is completed, it will be passed by the lawmakers,” the statement said.
Fubara said his administration was committed to maintaining peace and stability in the state, stressing that Rivers could not afford to return to the political controversies that had characterised the state in the past.
“The Rivers State Government has gone through difficult times in the past and is not prepared to be dragged into another round of controversies,” he said.
The governor consequently urged individuals and groups allegedly promoting what he described as negative narratives to desist, saying peace and harmony were necessary for the continued development of the state.
“We therefore advise all those bent on promoting negative narratives to desist from such actions forthwith as we need peace and harmony to ensure steady development of Rivers State,” the statement added.
The clarification comes amid heightened public interest in the relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State following years of political tensions.
Fubara’s administration said it remained focused on governance and would continue to work with the Assembly to advance the interests of Rivers residents.
