The Rivers State Police Command has suspended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the Abuloma Police Outpost of following allegations that suspected cultists renovated the facility.
The officers have also been queried, while the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the renovation and the alleged visit by the suspected cultists to celebrate its completion.
The development follows a trending social media report and a circulating video alleging that suspected cultists renovated the police facility and visited the outpost on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the project.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said the command strongly condemned any action capable of compromising the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
The command warned that police facilities must not become platforms for criminal groups to seek public recognition, legitimacy or acceptance.
It said the facilities were public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law.
The investigation, according to the statement, would establish the identities and backgrounds of the individuals or groups that financed or facilitated the renovation, the officers who authorised or approved the project, and whether due procedures were followed.
It would also determine whether any police officer breached professional standards or compromised the integrity of the Force, as well as the extent of police personnel’s involvement in the project.
The command, however, acknowledged that legitimate community support for improving police facilities was permissible under Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.
It stressed that such assistance must not compromise police independence, professional standards or security.
The statement added that the investigation would determine whether the necessary approvals were obtained and appropriate checks conducted on those who financed or facilitated the renovation.
It further warned that no donation or assistance would confer immunity from investigation or prosecution.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on criminality and unprofessional conduct, the command said it would not condone any improper association between police officers and criminal elements.
It assured the public that appropriate disciplinary and legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable, in accordance with the outcome of the investigation and extant laws.
The command also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency, the protection of lives and property, and the fight against cultism and organised crime.
It urged residents to remain calm and continue to provide credible and timely information to security agencies to enhance security across Rivers State.
