Deltans have been charged to monitor the various government projects in their communities and report any anomalies noticed on the projects to the necessary quarters.
The commissioner for Works in the state, Chief James Augoye gave the charge while addressing journalists in Asaba. In his words, “Communities should help to monitor our field engineers as well as contractors because it will help us to get quality roads. Governor Okowa will not commission any substandard road project.’’
The commissioner revealed at the occasion that the slow pace of works on road construction and rehabilitation in the state was occasioned by the ongoing raining season, adding that the government will adopt proactive measures to tackle the menace of perennial flooding across the state.
He also disclosed that plans were underway to dredge some of the rivers in order to control the perennial flooding being experienced in the state.
He frowned at the blocking of waterways through erection of buildings, which he described as a problem in some communities in the state and the nation in general, adding that the problem of flooding comes up whenever the river overflows its bank and there are structures on waterways.
