The chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government Area in Edo State Hon. Stanley Okoro says a major problem confronting his administration has been scarcity of funds to address the plural needs in the council area.
Stanley Okorosaid he inherited salary arrears liability of over N400million compounded by the monthly huge wage bill of teachers in the area.He made the revelations in Abudu, the council headquarters, in an interview granted City Express Newspaper.
“The problem in the council since I resumed office has often been scarcity of fund. I inherited salary arrears of over N400 millions coupled with monthly wage bill of teachers.”
The council boss said he is in office for the business of governance that will bring about the dividends of democracy that would enhance advancement in the council area.
Hon. Okorosaid his administration has paid the counterpart fund to UNlCEF to make sure there is provision of portable water for people in almost the 12 wards in the local government. He has also partnered with the CSDP to create different infrastructural amenities for the people such as, modern market stalls, good health care, roads, electricity, modern schools and many others, he added.
He is also expanding agricultural produce options to boost revenue and job creation.
“To leverage on the poor state of affairs within the scope of available resources in my administration, I have decided to take merits of available land proceeding with oil palm farming. The farm has been revived with a plan to build a palm oil processing cottage factory attached to it.
“The essence is to serve as internal generation fund to the council and to create job employment to the people in the locality. I did not want to be labeled among council chairmen who fail after leaving the government,” he explained.
