The remains of Nze Nwosha Obodoekwe, father of a Port Harcourt based journalist attached to National Point Newspapers and human rights defender, Styvn Obodoekwe, will be laid to rest on Friday, February 8, 2019. According to information released by Nze Alex Obodoekwe on behalf of the family and made available to this publication, the late Nwosha Obodoekwe, an Ozo title holder fondly addressed as Ogbueshi Ezenwamadi, will be buried in his family compound at Okuzu-Umuezegbogu village, Oba, (near Onitsha) Idemili South Local government Area of Anambra State in accordance with Christian burial tradition. The burial arrangement released by the family indicates that a Christian wake will be organised on Thursday, February 7 in his compound from 7pm as part of the burial rites. His body will leave Fah Hospital mortuary, Oba by 7am on Friday, Feb 8 to his compound for lying in state. Christian burial service to be organised by St Thomas Anglican Church, Oba would start by 10am, after which interment follows immediately.
The late head ofthe Obodoekwe family joined the ancestors on November 13, 2018 at a ripe age of90 years. He was a successful farmer, a trader and above all, a devoutChristian. He contributed immensely to the development of the community andprotection of the ideals of the community. ‘He was a strong, courageous, hardworking man and remained so until his death. He was also kind hearted, caring,principled, and always stood for what is just and right. We will miss his wordsof wisdom and courage”, said Styvn Obodoekwe who is also Director of Programmesat a Port Harcourt based NGO known as Centre for Environment, Human Rights anddevelopment, CEHRD. Until his death, he was a community leader and a dependablesource of wise counsel in the community and was consulted for useful adviceeven while on the sick bed.
