Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Isaiah Bozimo has said the three proposed bills to the Delta State House of Assembly will enhance the administration of civil justice and deepen democracy in the state.
Bozimo stated this in an interview with journalists immediately after the public hearing on the proposed bill at the state House of Assembly.
The attorney general listed the proposed bills as, Delta State Good Governance and Accountability Commission Bill 2022, Administration of Civil Justice Bill 2022, and Administration of Criminal Justice Bill 2022.
He noted that the purpose of the public hearing was to get contributions from members of the public whether for or against any of the bills, saying the essence was to ensure that the final product fit the purpose and best interest of the people in Delta State.
He also expressed optimism that the proposed bills would be enacted because they are aimed at deepening the dividends of democracy, and improving the administration of criminal and civil justice in the state.
In a separate interview, majority leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Ferguson Onwo said the public hearing was imperative to get information from members of the public, explaining that the state House of Assembly makes laws that are enduring over time.
He added, “We have called upon members of the judiciary, both bar and the bench, Civil Society Organisations to make their contributions on all the three important bills”.
On his part Hon. Anthony E. Elekeokwuri stated that all the three bills are important, adding that the Assembly would continue to pass into law bills that would improvethe lives of Deltans just as the three bills would enhance civil and criminal justice
He maintained that the Good Governance and Accountability Commission Bill, is aimed at ensuring that wastage is reduced in the system, and to make sure that people who are engaged in corrupt practices are punished appropriately.
