His thought is for him to go down on his knees, apparently to get the people votes, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has not relented in his passionate pleadings to Edo people to vote the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the rescheduled March 18 House of Assembly elections.
Following the February 25 presidential and National Assembly polls, the party recorded its worst performance since the return to democratic rule in 1999 as it neither scored the mandatory 25 per cent of the votes cast in the presidential election nor win any of the three senatorial and nine House of Representatives seats that were up for grabs.
If not for his being scared stiff of a repeat occurrence in the March 18 election for its 24 member House of Assembly, the governor has mounted a vigorous campaign stunt throughout the state, trumpeting, what he insisted are his five star achievements in a determined effort to turn the tide on the Saturday election.
The governor’s message everywhere he goes in the state, either at market places, Uwelu Motor Spare shops, street corners or on radio and television jingles, is the same: vote for PDP candidates in order to save me from impeachment by the All Progressives Congress (APC) should they have majority of lawmakers in the House.
This happened at other notable places where he went on bended knees including, Evbareke Spare Motor Parts in Egor Local Government Area, as well as the Oba and Tyre Dealers Markets in Oredo Local Government Area of the state.
In the “Save Me From APC Impeachment Plot” sermons at markets in Benin, the governor had on Friday March 3 during a meeting with market women from the 12 wards and 619 units in Oredo Local Government Area, canvassed for votes for the PDP in order to save him from the machinations of the APC impeachment, should they have the higher number in the House.
At Evbareke, Obaseki told the spare parts traders: “You need not make the mistake of voting for the wrong people as they will come into the system to disrupt our developmental strategy.
“They were there before but followed the instructions from their godfather as they didn’t resume at the Assembly. They say they will impeach me when they come into the House.”
