The burial of the former Amanyanabo of Okrika, King Alfred Semenitari Abam, has been scheduled for December 16 at Okrika.
In a press announcement, Okrika Local Government Council in conjunction with Ado Royal Family and Central Burial Planning Committee, listed several events that will precede the burial of the king, who died on 8th September, 2021 at the age of 82.
The statement issued on behalf of the Central Burial Planning Committee by the Chairman of the Publicity Sub-Committee, Dame Ibim Semenitari, gave the detailed activities for the burial are as follows:
Monday 4th Dec. 2023 – Sekeni (Kiri-Owu) and Egbelereme final cleansing; Friday 8th Dec. 2023 – Bese Musical Performance at Okrika Town Square; Tuesday 12th Dec. 2023, exposition of late Amanyanabo’s literary/ intellectual works at Everest Event Centre, Abam Ama; Wednesday 13th Dec. 2023, special activities of Okrika communities in Port Harcourt; and Thursday 14th Dec. 2023, service of songs and candle light procession at Okrika National Secondary School field.
It said there will be a valedictory session by the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers at the traditional rulers Council Secretariat, Port Harcourt a valedictory session by Okrika Divisional Council of Chiefs at Okrika on Friday 15th December.
On Saturday 16th December, there will be a commendation Service at the St Peter’s Cathedral, Okrika, followed by interment at the King’s Palace, Okrika Roundabout.
A funfair and cultural displays will follow at different centres in Okrika before a thanksgiving service on Sunday at St Peter’s Cathedral.
The statement enjoined all indigenes of Okrika both at home and abroad, friends, well wishers, and the general public to join the Okrika people to celebrate the life and times of the late monarch. The foremost economist and historian was the pioneer Director General of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC).
Last Saturday, the people of Koniju in Okrika laid to rest the remains of the Amanyanabo of Koniju, King Nelson Atubi Oputibeya.
Governor Sim Fubara said at the burial that he would not take the love the people had shown him for granted. He promised to gazette the recognition of the Koniju chieftaincy tool within the week.
