The chairman, Benin branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, (NBA), Collins Benson Ogiegbaen, has threatened to carry out citizen arrest of Chief Nosakhare Osadolor (aka Afro) over allegation that he is shielding from arrest, his children suspected to have assaulted one of their member, Osiobase Omo-Iyoha, whose whereabouts is still unknown. The abduction took place on May 9, 2020.
Ogiegbaen issued the threat during an emergency joint meeting with civil society groups in Benin City. He disclosed that the lawyer, Omo-Iyoha, while trying to settle an argument between Osadolor‘s children and another fellow, was beaten to a pulp and later taken away to an unknown destination and their father is preventing the flow of justice.
He said: “I will sheath my sword for now, and if by Friday morning, the whereabouts of Barrister Osobase is still unknown, I will lead the Civil Society Organizations, members of the Bar, and the Fourth Estate of the Realm to the house of Chief Priest Afro and I will arrest him.
“I will institute a citizen arrest on him, tie him up, and bring him here so that the commissioner of Police will come and arrest him”.
The state NBA boss decried the failure of the police to do the needful. “It is a shame that up to this moment, the police have not been able to come out with a clue about the whereabouts of the kidnapped lawyer or bring those behind the dastardly act to book”.
Supporting the stand of the NBA, the public relations officer, Edo State Civil Society Organizations, EDOCSO, Comrade Osazee Edigin, said the group will do everything within its power to team up with the NBA to ensure that justice is done on the matter.
Meanwhile, the Edo State police public relations officer, DSP, Chidi Nwabuzor said the command was fully aware of the incident and has mobilized its technical section to bring about the release of the abducted lawyer.
In a related development, anxiety continues to mount within the circles of the family and associates of former commissioner for Sports and Youths Development, Presley Idiagbonya who, was kidnapped from his farm house in Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area. He was kidnapped at about 2:am last Saturday.
A set, representing the third batch of rescue searchers, have been sent to the bush to look for his body in response to a text message sent by his abductors indicating that his body was dumped in a cassava farm few hours after the family went to drop a N2m ransom at Patani in Delta State.
