The chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Area, High-Chief Benjamin Israel Eke has charged youths in the country to channel their energies toward productive activities.
Chief Eke gave this charge last Saturday at St. Paul’s State School Ahoada in Ahoada East LGA, during the 62nd Independence Anniversary of Nigeria.
The chairman said, “I want to enjoin you to begin now to channel your youthful energies toward positive and productive activities as well as distance yourselves from all forms of anti-social behaviours such as cultism, drug abuse and illegal oil bunkering. You must resist the temptation of yielding yourselves as tools to be used to commit electoral crimes during the forthcoming general elections in 2023”.
The chairman told them that the independence Nigeria was marking was bequeathed to her by the founding fathers of the country and must be protected.
Chief Eke then advised them to rekindle the spirit of patriotism. “It is therefore, imperative that we hold on strongly to this freedom and to continually rekindle the spirit of patriotism that inspired our founding fathers to risk all, including their lives and personal liberty in pursuit of that dream, and in doing so, laying the foundation for nation building. It behooves us therefore, as custodians of our posterity to brace up to the onerous task of consolidating on that foundation as our own legacy to posterity”.
According to him, “in realizing these objectives there is a compelling responsibility on the part of government to create the enabling environment and to initiate appropriate policy frameworks to maximize or enhance the innate potential in the citizenry and to inculcate the right values necessary for the achievement of these dreams, aspirations and visions”.
Chief Eke said for that reason, his administration has executed projects and programmes to promote entrepreneurship. “This explains why as a government, we have gone the extra mile within available resources to execute projects and initiate programmes that are geared towards activating entrepreneurship skills, training on information and communication technology and other forms of human capacity development programmes necessary for harnessing the full economic potential of our youths and making them self-reliant, especially in this era of global economic depression and dearth of white collar jobs.
“Therefore, there is also the corresponding duty on our people, especially our children and youths to take advantage of these windows of opportunities to equip themselves for the challenges ahead in order to benefit from available and future opportunities that may come their way,” Chief Eke asserted.
He urged elders and youths 18 years and above to be ready and prepared to cast their votes in next year’s poll as he assured that there is a bright future for Nigeria.
“If there is any one here who feels discouraged by the gloomy picture that is being painted by the present realities of our country, I can confidently assure you all that there is a bright prospect for you and for this country if we do not lose our focus and if we shall be courageous enough to always stand up for what is right and not mortgage our conscience in the exercise of our franchise when the time comes to elect leaders to whom the future of this country shall be entrusted,” Chief Eke assured.
He lauded Governor Nyesom Wike for the numerous infrastructural projects and programmes his administration has embarked upon, especially the Ahoada-Omoku road that has brought the Ahoada Local Government Area to limelight
After the march past and debate competitions, prizes were given to the schools that won 1st, 2nd, and 3rdplaces in the primary and post-primary categories respectively.
