As eyebrows are being raised over President Muhammed Buhari’s sudden love for ex-president Goodluck Jonathan and the recent visit of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors to him in Abuja, the party has given a hint on why its governors visited the former president.
According to Daily Post, the party said it was taking steps “to consolidate on its national appeal and acceptance” as a progressive platform.
Yekini Nabena, APC deputy national publicity secretary, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in which he derided the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which had raised alarm over leaders of its rival party visiting him after realizing and admitting that he did well while in office.
Taunting the PDP as “rattled and disoriented”, Nabena said the governors trip to Jonathan was not a big deal.
“At a time, when the PDP and its leadership are grappling with a crisis of confidence, one would expect the failed opposition to focus on picking itself up”, he said.
However, discerning Nigerians are trying to read between the lines pointing to a ploy by the North to represent Jonathan for presidency in 2023 to scuttle Bola Tinubu’ s dream and obstruct the South East demand for the Aso Rock office.
Ebonyi governor David Umahi dumped the PDP for the APC last week to position for the presidency and help Ndigbo take their turn. The South East in the only geopolitical zone yet to have a shot at the number one eat.
Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) and governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni led the delegation to Jonathan.
On his entourage were Governors Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa), David Umahi (Ebonyi), among others.
