I feel the family of Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ken Saro-Wiwa Foundation need to do better in promoting and sustaining the literary works and legacy of Ken Saro-Wiwa. Getting a copy of a title by Ken Saro-Wiwa today has been another definition of the word “difficult”. During the 2018 Kangaroo Poetry Festival, we had the plan to exhibit his works in knowledgement of the fact that the Kangaroo Poetry Movement sprang from his ideologies, but not a copy was on display despite doing everything within my ability. Life’s events and outcomes are run by a predetermined course of fate. I…
Rivers State has experienced a period of relative calm since September 18, when the state of emergency was lifted and both the governor and the House of Assembly were reinstated. While this development was reportedly the outcome of a negotiated truce among the contending factions in the state’s prolonged political crisis, the exact terms of that agreement remain undisclosed. Consequently, the people of Rivers State remain uncertain about what lies ahead. During the emergency period, all boards and governing councils of government commissions and parastatals were dissolved, and individuals loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom…

The Army said in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations, that the operations, carried out in conjunction with other security agencies, led to the deactivation of four illegal refining sites and the…
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has described as unfortunate the fire incident that gutted a section of the State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt on Monday evening. The affected area, which serves as a creche for babies of civil servants, was partly destroyed by the blaze. Governor Fubara visited the site on Tuesday morning to personally assess the level of damage. The Governor was received at the Secretariat Complex by a crowd of jubilant civil servants, the Head of Service, and some Permanent Secretaries, including the newly sworn-in Mr Austin Ezekiel-Hart. Speaking to journalists after the inspection, Governor Fubara…
“Our Leader, His Excellency Nyesom Wike, all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and I, as your Governor, have all accepted to bury the hatchet and embrace peace and reconciliation in the best interest of our dear Rivers State.” My dear good people of Rivers State, Recall that Rivers State was placed under a six-month emergency rule, declared by Mr. President, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the 18th of March, 2025, following the intense political crisis in our State. It is without doubt that the last six months had been enormously challenging for our dear…
Legendary poet, Dr Kudo Eresia-Eke, has commended SEAVIEW POETRY CLUB, Port Harcourt for keeping the fire of poetry burning in the state. He made the commendation during the 20th Anniversary of the club on air, which he attended as a special guest. Dr Eresia-Eke, who was addressed as a living ancestor, expressed surprise over the growth of the club and its achievements over the years. He noted that he was overwhelmed with joy to be part of the celebration of poetry in a society where the drive for quick wealth has forced many people to abandon literary works. He pointed…
The state of emergency in Rivers State has since ended on September 17, 2025 and the Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the House of Assembly have since resumed duties. It is indeed a welcome development after six months of uncertainty under an emergency rule that had no regard for the views of the people. However, one has come to notice that things have not started working well again in the state since the state of emergency ended more than ten days ago. The streets of Port Harcourt and indeed other local government headquarters…
From March 18 to September 17, 2025, Rivers State was ruled not by its elected leaders but by an unelected sole administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired Vice-Admiral appointed by President Bola Tinubu under the cover of emergency rule. For six long months, Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly were suspended in circumstances that defied the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The declaration of emergency itself followed a highly controversial Supreme Court verdict that reinstated 27 lawmakers who had publicly defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the very party on whose platform they were elected.…
Rivers women, under the aegis of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, have declared a glorious new dawn in the State following the reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu and members of the State House of Assembly after a six-month suspension. The women, clad in green attire, gathered at the Ecumenical Center, Port Harcourt on Thursday to thank God and to celebrate the restoration of peace and democracy in the State. They later took to the streets of Port Harcourt to symbolically show their joy over the lifting of emergency rule from the State by President Bola…
