Wife of the Edo State governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, has commended the creative and ingenuity of Nigerian children, saying they represent the hope for a bright future of the country.
She gave the commendation at an event put together by God’s Child Foundation Ministries and Forum of Children Ministers in Edo State in conjunction with BMI’s Children Church, to mark this year’s children’s day celebration in Benin City.
Betsy Obaseki, who was represented by Pastor Charity Anakun, said the wish of every Nigerian parent is to see his children succeed and surpass his progress.
Urging the children to follow that dream, she prayed: “My prayer is that you all will grow up to be great human beings and fulfill your God ordained destinies, and that no one will be able to steal your glories.
“As parents, we wish you nothing but the best. May you always be happy and may you always be healthy.”
President, Forum of Children Ministers, Rev. Ogbevoen Oviasu, who pushed back his 63rd birthday to celebrate his 43 years of teaching the children, said God instructed him to gather people of like-minds to help in teaching the children and instilling godly virtues in them.
He said, “Actually, my birthday is supposed to be April 3rd, I decided to postpone it to May 27, to celebrate it with the children. The reason is that God had given me a commission in the past 43 years. For the past 12 years we have been celebrating with the children.
“I have worked with the children. They are my life, my history is not made without being with the children. I got to know Jesus early and God told me to work with the children. I am happy today celebrating with the children.”
He said teaching children demands showing good example.
“When you talk to the children, they will listen to you but until they see it in you, it does not manifest in them. If you are teaching faith, you must exhibit the faith, so that the children would see it in you”.
He said working with children has impacted positively on his life. “Working with the children has enabled me to work near with God, and it has been ordering my steps. It has help me to live a clean life.”
In her remark, his wife, Pastor Mrs. Regina Oviasu, urged parents to instill in their children good values that will remain indelible in their hearts.
“What I have noticed today is that, people have overlooked these little ones and whatever we are doing today, it will never leave the minds of these children.
“So, it is very important that as parents, we should start to put indelible marks in the hearts of our children by teaching them right morals and above all, teaching them the fear of God.
“If any man has the fear of God, no matter where you are, you will always bend to the authority and to the commandments of God”, she explained.
