The board, management and staff of Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development, CEHRD CONGRATULATE Prof Nenibarini Zabbey, the Ogoni born researcher, environmentalist and the Coordinator of CEHRD, on his recent appointment as the Project Coordinator of HYPREP.
We also commend the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, for finding our Coordinator worthy to be entrusted with the onerous task of coordinating the HYPREP.
The appointment of Prof Zabbey is well deserved and commendable. It amounts to placing a round peg in a round hole.
We are overwhelmed by joy as we consider the appointment a big win for the environmental CSOs in the region and beyond, who have been at the forefront of the struggle for environmental justice.
Zabbey, a consummate researcher, has remained a courageous and unwavering environmental justice campaigner whose commitments in applying scientific methods in solving societal problems over the years, have earned him an international award, the 2022 RUTH PATRICK AWARD conferred on him by the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography, ASLO, USA in 2022 .
We at CEHRD, are confident that he is well endowed with needed skills and capacities to drive the Ogoni environment remediation Project and deliver on its aims and objectives.
He has been at the forefront of the struggle for the remediation of Niger Delta environment and the clamour for environmental justice.
It is our prayer that GOD will give him wisdom and strength to carry out this new herculean task..
With this appointment, we are more emboldened to continue on our chosen path of environmental justice work for which, we are known.
CEHRD’s over 20 years intervention in Nigeria focuses on sustainable environmental management advocacy, community development, policy research and influencing, human right, and good governance.
