Rivers State Chapter of the Association of Christian Schools International (ASCI) has held a leadership training workshop in Port Harcourt.
The state coordinator of the association, Mrs. Carole Emeka Sunday, said the essence of the workshop was to prepare school leaders and teachers who will groom and teach leaders and students who are academically and spiritually sound both in character and learning as well as groom potential successors in the education sector.
She said if school owners and leaders did what they were supposed to be doing pupils and students will not cheat or indulge in malpractices.
Mrs. Sunday, who is the proprietress of Sailors’ Pride School Port Harcourt, pointed out that the over 300 members of ASCI are focused on producing pupils and students could compete with their counterpart around the world.
The guest speaker, Pastor Mrs. Ifeoma Chukwuogo, who is the proprietress of Japhetha Comprehensive, said the workshop would go a long way to prepare and equip school leaders and their teachers, warning parents against examination malpractices.
“School leaders and teachers as well as parents should know that indulging in exams malpractices is bad. We must warn against the consequences of exam malpractices. As a pupil or a student if you cheat in Nigeria will you also cheat on the global stage among your counterpart from other part of the world,” Pastor Mrs. Chukwuogo queried.
A participant at the workshop and founder of Lacec Model Schools Ogale, Eleme, Pastor Clement Ezepue said that every participant who attended the workshop has something he or she has learnt and would take it home.
Ezepue reiterated the need for Nigeria to get it right. “If Nigeria would get it right school leaders and teachers must also get it right by grooming and teaching the children well.
“If Nigeria is going to get it right then school leaders and teachers much groom and teach pupils and students under their care well,” Pastor Ezepue opined.
Our correspondent reports that the theme of the workshop is Identifying and Grooming Potential Successors, Strategies for Talent Identification and Development.
