The Community Initiative for Enhanced Peace and Development (CIEPD), with funding support from Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), implemented the Collaborative Election Violence Prevention and Mitigation Project in Rivers State in the 2023 General Election.
Following the release of the Final result of the Presidential and National Assembly Elections held on the 25th of February 2023 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Community Initiative for Enhanced Peace and Development in collaboration with PIND Foundation, makes the following statement:
* We commend Nigerians for coming out massively to express their civic duties on Election Day to cast votes to elect their preferred President and National Assembly representatives.
* Following our observations and experiences of the process from our field monitors and situation room, the process was tainted by numerous challenges ranging from the late arrival of INEC staff and materials, hitches in the operation of the BVAS, Voters suppression, Vote Buying, Failure/Inability to upload the results and the lack of communication by INEC on the status/hacking of the IRev portal.
* Despite the mixed feelings and emotions that are expressed, we call on Nigerians, especially the good people of Rivers State, to remain calm and peaceful at this critical time. It is expedient that we eschew violence and by no means take laws into our hands
- We need you to build a peaceful and prosperous Rivers State / Nigeria.
We say No to Electoral Violence!
