The Assistant Commandant General in charge of Zone L, ACG James Bassey has charged 49 newly trained officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Rivers State Command, to devote their utmost allegiance to safeguarding the critical national assets and infrastructure of the Nation.
ACG Bassey made this call while delivering a keynote address at the passing out parade of the newly trained officers and men at the Command Headquarters of the NSCDC in Port Harcourt.
He said the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, in his renewed vigour, has provided avenue for personnel to thrive successfully through career progression courses, training and re-training, promotion by merit as well as payment of all benefits and allowances as at when due hence, making it mandatory for all officers to discharge their statutory duties with utmost loyalty and allegiance to the nation. In particular, he harped on putting an end to civilian brutality in the course of duty.
“As I relay to you the message of the Commandant General, it is expedient for me to drum into your hearings that the era of brutality, assault and intimidation of civilians are over. As you protect the critical national assets and infrastructure which is our core mandate, I charge you to be dedicated and totally give your allegiance to our nation because much confidence is reposed on you. The NSCDC is a paramilitary organization committed to defending the civil populace. You must not shatter the trust and hope”, he said.
The zonal commander further noted that the country is losing so much as a result of illegal oil bunkering activities, and therefore, all hands must be on deck in combating oil theft which he stressed, is very inimical to the nation’s economy.
Speaking at the event, the new Rivers State commandant of NSCDC, Michael Ogar expressed delight in the performance of the newly trained officers who displayed their skills in stripping and assembling of rifles, unarmed combat, counter terrorism display and most especially, the march past parade.
He commended the instructors for taking the graduands through necessary regimental discipline to bring out the best in them even as they prepare for more trainings at the various Civil Defence Colleges across the federation.
