The Edo State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Comrade (Dr.) Tony Aziegbemi has commended the President Bola Amhed Tinubu for the removal of fuel subsidy and tasked him to use the money realized from the removal of fuel subsidy should be use for the benefits of the welfare of the generality of Nigerians.
Comrade Tony Aziegbemi made the statement in a press interactive conference at the PDP Secretariat in Benin city, Edo state, said Edo PDP is silent majority is bring the party to a total disrespect. He said those grumbling about what is happening in PDP because they did not get what they wanted from the party are destroying the party in the state.
Dr. Tony Aziegbemi said, in the present PDP under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki administration believed inhard work, integrity and character and team work matter a lot in politics. ” PDP has been held to ramson by some silent majority that could not get what they wanted. PDP will not die, and is greater than any individual,” he added.
Praising governor for what he has done in Edo state, Dr. Aziegbemi said Edo state government has provide Ossiomo power plant in some part of the state. He said the coming of Ossiomo power plant had brought various investors and improve businesses in the state.
According to him, said Edo Tech Park is another development which had generated the training of 15,000 Tech Engineers in the state. He listed others gains of the state government such as; EdoBest, two modular refineries that have started working and free internet giving to people in some selected part of the state.
He said:” today I have decided to called you the press so that we can have a conversations. And to interface in our usually manner. I want to speak with you on three major issues. One is the party politics in Nigeria, two is the governor Obaseki phenomenon in Edo state and the last is the State of the Nation. On party politics, we all know that political party exist to acquire powers from local, state to federal level.
” Is normally a strong reality and when you come in and subscribe to the political party that you believe in the core values. You believe that is the party that reflect your value of how political party should be run. But for some of us in the PDP is silent majority. I am speaking on the silent majority that have kept quiet for a long time.
” It seem some of the political leaders in the PDP is bringing the party down to total disrepute. The party that gave you a platform for you to become whoever you became. For whatever reason because you think you could not get what you think you should get, you started throwing all sorts of insults against the party.
” I find it very wrong, as a member of PDP since 1998, many of us have had the issues of not getting what we want, we did not insult, throw bomb or leave the party. We did not working against the interest of the party. In many cases, even in politics there has to be character. Character is matter, and is the foundation which anything is build on.
” Also, integrity , honesty , hard work and team work of not getting what you want every time, but stay with the team. But I will assured you this party will not die. This party is greater than any individual or group of individuals no matter how influential they are,” he stated.
Praising the President for the removal of fuel subsidy, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi said,” on the third aspect I want to speak about is the state of the Nation. Let say the general elections has come and gone. The winner had been declare and my party is in Court. What we will do is to leave what we cannot change for now.
” That is to say what has the President done since he was sworn in since May 29,2023. I would say that the first two policies that the President Bola Tinubu made is the removal of fuel subsidy and modification of the exchange rates. That in my opinion is the ‘best’, way to go about our economy that have been grounded if those two measures were not taken.
” Those two policies alone are going to give us an excessive of 2 trillion naira without even touchling the money in our nation treasury. My worry is unlike what we do in Edo state, when we made friendly policies to affect the lives of the people. My concern is that is not just gathering this money alone, what matter is that what do we do with the funds, and how to spend the funds that matter.
” The palitatives the President is giving out to the public how would the people benefit from this saving that the President realize from these two policies? So, as we commended him from taking those hard decision, we are also waiting to see what the turn out process would be when it comes to giving palitatives to the people on how to solve the problems of our people,” Dr. Tony Aziegbemi posited.
