The commissioner of police in Edo State, Danmallam Mohammed has vowed to deal with some government state security personnel, who often position themselves at various bank spots waiting for ATM users coming to withdraw money to and dispossess them of their money and belongs, after threatening to arrest them if they refuse to comply with their demands.
The CP made the statement after journalists drew his attention to some of the criminal acts being perpetrated in the state. Mohammed spoke at a press conference before parading some criminals involved in different types of crime,
Bothering on armed robbery, stealing,sale of babies, kidnapping, rape, cultism and other forms of nefarious activitiesin Edo State.
He also outlined some of the achievements recorded by the command since he assumed office as he called on members of the public and the media to
Support efforts to combat crimes andcriminality in the state.
“l described some state government security officers’ manner, as acts of criminality. l thank you for drawing our attention to such a criminal issue. We
have teams of police men who will be placed on various strategic areas to monitor the act. Anybody found wanting will face the law.
“It is a typical act of criminality; there is no excuse for that. Our constitution talks about protection of the human rights of every Nigerians.No police force under the new lGP will commit such crime and go free. lt is part of the new lGP’s policy since he came into power. What the present lGP is saying is, no illegal arrest, detention, no extra-judicial killing, torture and criminal act by collecting money from members of the public”.
The state police boss said, “Ibelieve in the constitution,due process and rule of law. This is where we standwith the IGP. We are going to give all the support and ensure Nigerians enjoytheir freedom,” he added.
Highlighting some of the gains the command had recorded so far since he came on board in January,2019, Mohammed said, 141 cases had be recorded, 346suspects arrested and 110 cases charged to court, among other recorded achievements by the police command .
. He said the police was able to achieve the much it did because of various new methods and measures put in place to track hoodlums in the state.
Danmallam Mohammed said the supportof other sister agencies, such as the Army, Navy, DSS, Customs and otherssecurity bodies made the police to achievesuccess.
He vowed to make the stateunbearable for hoodlums and criminals.
The police also paraded six suspects in connection with the killing of a DPO
and a female cop after burningpolice vehicle at Afuze Police Station. in Edo state
Confessing to his crime in an exclusive interview, one of the suspects, Ogedegbe Samuel, 29 years old, from Owan East Local Government Area, said he was arrested by the police after the police found a cut- to- size gun and five bullets in his bag. He admitted to being a member of a cult gang who are carrying out reprisal killing of members other cult groups.
