The Chairman of Eleme Local Government, Chief Brain Gokpa, has begun disbursement of bursaries to the over 1,500 students of Eleme origin in post-secondary institutions in Nigeria.
Already the benefiting students have been acknowledging receipt of the payments in their respective bank accounts.
The process of paying the bursary to the students was started when Chief Gokpa was the Chairman of the caretaker committee of the local government through the Education Committee headed by Hon. Okaka Obe, the former Supervisor for Education.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Hon. Udeme Obot, said in a press statement during the week, said the bursar payments were part of “a move to support the education of Eleme students, the Eleme Local Government Council.”
He said Chief Gokpa was determined that his administration would alleviate the financial burdens on Eleme families during this period by the Educational support.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Eleme Students, NAES, has expressed appreciation to the Chairman for approving the payment of the bursaries.
In an open letter to the Chairman, the National President of NAES, Comrade Anderson Obaridonemi Philip, said “This financial support is a significant boost that will ease many challenges faced by our students, enabling them to focus on their studies and personal development.”
Each of the benefiting students was paid the sum of N50,000.
