Rivers State Governor, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara, on Tuesday began a 20-day programme of events and activities to celebrate his first year in office, with the inauguration of the 10.9-kilometre Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo section of the old Port Harcourt – Bori road.
The project plaque was unveiled by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, who urged the people of Rivers State to support Fubara because he was focused on delivering development to the state.
Governor Fubara said the rehabilitated road would serve as an alternative route to the busy East-West road, which is currently undergoing reconstruction. The project executed at the cost of N6.7 billion, was begun on August 14, 2024.
The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee of the One-Year Anniversary, Dr Tammy Danagogo, who is also the Secretary to the State Government, said the 20-Day programme will principally focus on commissioning of projects, flag off of new ones and other activities.
Other projects due for commissioning were Andoni section of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo Unity road will be commissioned on Saturday, May 15; the Emohua-Terma road on Friday, May 17; Egbeda internal roads project in Emohua Local Government Area on Monday, May 20; Phase 1 of Port Harcourt Electrical Village and flag off of phase 2 on Tuesday, May 21; and dualised Omoku – Egbema road.
Danagogo also stated that the programme will continue with the flag-off of the Elele-Umudioga-Egbeda-Ubimini-Ikiri-Omoku 31 km road on Thursday, May 16; and the Okanla – Ogbogoro road; and Phase 2 of Trans Kalabari road on Thursday, May 30.
May 22 and 23 will be the hosting of Rivers State Economic and Investment Summit to discuss investment opportunities, while the Governor will present certificates to some traditional rulers on Friday May 31 and a praise night will on the same day.
The wife of the governor, Lady Valerie Fubara, will host the Children’s Day celebration on May 27, while a state banquet to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the creation of Rivers State on the same date, accompanied by the unveiling of a book on Rivers State.
On Tuesday, May 28, will the day for a Youth Development programme; while an Accountability Forum to present Governor Fubara’s stewardship and scorecard will hold on May 29.
Other events include Rivers Marathon on Saturday, June 1 and thanksgiving service at Saint Paul’s Anglican Cathedral Garrison, Port Harcourt on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
