The management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) Saturday, December 2, 2023 held its 34th/35th Convocation ceremony,.
Briefing the press ahead of the convocation ceremony and other related activities concerning the event, vice chancellor of the university, Prof. (Mrs.) Nnenna Oti said the combined convocation ceremony was as a result of the protracted ASUU strike of 2022.
She said, “This convocation ceremony captures graduating classes of 2020/2021 and 2022 academic sessions disrupted by the protracted ASUU strike of 2022. The university will admit to the first and higher degrees, young men and women who have successfully completed their studies and are found worthy in character and learning”.
Prof. Mrs. Oti hinted that during the occasion, eminent and distinguished Nigerians would be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees.
“Honorary Degrees of the university will also be awarded to the three distinguish Nigerians namely, Chief (Sir) Chibuike Lawrence Achigbu, (Chief) Okezie Chikere Akwiwu and Mr. Abubakar Suleiman for their immense contributions to humanity and society at large”, Prof. (Mrs.) Oti announced.
The VC and the FUTO management team of the university inspected some exhibition stands such as Centre for Waste To Wealth Research and Development (CW 2 WRAD), FUTO; Interlocking Block, SEET: Development of Prototype Integrated Solar Energy/Nocturnal Radiative System and Real Time Security Surveillance with Deep Learning –enabled drones and so many others designed and fabricated by the students and lecturers of FUTO
