Comrade Ovuzourie Macaulay
Newly appointed director-general of Warri/Uvwie and Environs Development Agency, Comrade Ovuzourie Macaulay has vowed to leave no stone unturned to ensure Warri and environs are tidied up even if it means stepping on toes.
Comrade Macaulay made this known while briefing journalists shortly after taking the oath of office along with other members of the agency.
Macaulay, who was secretary to Delta State government, said he would clean the entire Warri and environ, adding that appointment to head an agency is not new to him.
“I pioneered Nigeria Union of Journalists in Delta State, I pioneered NLC and I pioneered Conflict Resolution Agency,’’ he pointed out as he remarked that he understood the terrain and the sensitivity of the people very well because the area had been part of him while growing up.
He called on the people of the area to continue to maintain peace while soliciting for their cooperation with the agency for an effective and successful tenure.
On youth restiveness, Comrade Macaulay charged the youths to maintain peace in the oil producing communities as peace would ensure the sustenance of high allocation to the state which would translate into more funds for the agency to work with.
‘For the agency to be properly funded, the governor has to get more money from federal allocation; for the governor to get more money from federal allocation, there must be peace in the oil bearing communities.”
He lamented the high number of kiosks and caravans in Warri and environment.
‘Warri is full of kiosks and caravans hence you must clear all these things to make the environment clean. In making the environment clean we are going to step on toes. You can’t put up a beautiful edifice without destroying the bad one that was there. So we must step on toes and people must be ready to make that sacrifice. For Warri to be clean, for Warri to be that type of city we are looking forward to, we must eliminate all these undesirable things.”
