A coalition of Ijaw organizations recently visited families of some victims of the 2022 flood that engulfed much of Bayelsa State from September to November, 2022. Among the organizations were: Ijaw Elders Forum Lagos, IEFL, Ijaw Professional Association, IPA, Ijaw Nation Forum, INF, Embasara and Ijaw Women Connect, IWC.
Leading the team also Iniruo Wills Esq. The team also visited and presented awards to communities in the state which took proactive action and embarked on effective flood control actions.
Among those visited was the families of Premobowei Ernest, the footballer who died after saving five persons in a boat with him at the Epie Creek in Yenagoa. His family was presented with a cheque for N400,000 for the widow and N100,000 for the father of the young hero.
The presentation was combined with another presentation to another young boy and musical talent, Etievie Clarkson Kikile, who rescued a child and crossed the floodwaters with the child on his back while singing Michael Jackson’s “Heal the World (Make it a Better Place)”. We gave him an award plaque and a cheque of N100,000 on behalf of the above coalition of Ijaw interest groups.
