Rights activist and chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), Comrade Patrick Eholor says the Peter Obi movement for the 2023 presidential elections is not about Peter Obi per se but about the masses who are desirous of a better life.
Eholor said Peter Obi is just a man driving the movement on the platform of the Labour Party, and the people are tired of the present state of things in the country and are ready for a real change.
The president of One Love Foundation, made the declarations while fielding questions from journalists shortly after a strategic and stakeholders meeting of the LP, which held in Benin city, Edo State.
Comrade Eholor said the party is fully prepared to hold its presidential rally in the state this month and also prepared to win the presidential election. He added that traditional chiefs and monarchs in the state have been reached to make the rally a huge success.
Said he: “The Peter Obi movement is not about an individual, it is about the masses. I think we are fully prepared. We have reached out to traditional chiefs and monarchs in the state.
“Labour Party is going to do something unique that no one has seen before.
“So, it is not about Peter Obi, it is beyond him, he is just one who is driving it on the platform of Labour. If he was to be an independent candidate, I believe the narrative would still be the same because he has the pedigree, he has the character that we need.”
Describing Nigeria as a bereaved country, the rights activist said: “It is about us, it is a massive movement; it is a collective effort of a people who are bereaved. We are bereaved metaphorically. It is not when you lose your parents alone that you are bereaved.
“When things are not going well in your life, you are bereaved. We empathize with Nigeria and we don’t want this house called Nigeria to fall, so, we are all ready and willing to change this house.”
“We cannot continue to wallow in poverty as Nigerians, we cannot continue to deny our children of education.”
